2022 Young Professional Conversations with Leaders

Marcia G. Cooke is a native of Detroit, Michigan. She received her law degree from the Wayne State University Law School in Detroit, Michigan, and is a graduate of the Georgetown University Edmund G. Walsh School of Foreign Service. Judge Cooke has held a variety of positions in the public and private sectors. Relocating to Florida in 1992, Judge Cooke served as an Executive Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida. In 1999, Governor Jeb Bush appointed her to serve as the Chief Inspector General for the State of Florida, responsible for promoting accountability and ethical behavior in state agencies. At the time of her confirmation to the Federal Bench in 2004, she was an Assistant Miami-Dade County Attorney. In addition to her other responsibilities, Judge Cooke is an adjunct professor at the University of Miami School of Law, teaching litigation skills, and is an adjunct professor at St. Thomas University School of Law, where she teaches criminal procedure. She is a long-time faculty member of the National Institute of Trial Advocacy (NITA) and has taught at trial practice and litigation programs throughout the country. Judge Cooke is an active alumna of Georgetown University. She serves on the Georgetown University African American Advisory Board, is an emeritus member of the Board of Governors, served on the University’s Board of Directors, and served as the national President of the Georgetown University Alumni Association.
Suggested Minimum Donation of $25.00 is encouraged but not required to raise money for the Client Fund. This fund is continuously replenished through events hosted by the Young Professionals Council in order to provide clients with gift cards for groceries to help feed their families.
